jeff is a practitioner and teacher of yang style tai chi, a consummate martial arts pratitioner. currently training as a shodan within united ryukyu kempo alliance with focus on okinawan kobudo weapon kata and arts. when not in clinic, you may find him training in the dojo, or just look out to sea, to see him paddling in a waka or on a board in the Tasman (or any other body of water for that matter)
a brief history
prior to re-training in chinese medicine mid-1990s, jeff earned a juris doctorate (law degree) and worked for 12 years in the criminal justice system which helped hone his skill and acumen for careful and compassionate listening
after earning his masters degree in chinese medicine and working in holistic health, jeff and laurie created healing point wellness centre in santa cruz, california, a busy multi-disciplinary wellness & healing centre
jeff moved to new zealand in 2005
he spent the first 7 years teaching chinese medicine at the new zealand college of chinese medicine in christchurch, where he also served as clinical supervisor and programme director. jeff also served as an executive member of the nz acupuncture standards authority and played an instrumental role in leading the chinese medicine profession into registration under the health practitioners competence assurance act in Aotearoa
jeff has completed training under Thomas Cowan and the New Biology Curriculum and Clinic which has a life enhancing ethos much in line with jeff's Chinese medicine philosophy and a focus on common sense, wholistic healing of the emotional and physical body using a multi-systems approach rooted in the basics of creating and maintaining cohesive structured waters that make us, us, using sunlight, grounding, water and nutrition as cornerstone therapies.
recognising Aotearoa and particularly Taranaki as his tūrangawaewae, jeff has cultivated his relationship and connection with the land and people of this land through engagement with te ao māori, tikanga māori and te reo māori, through inner work and self study, waka ama whānaungatanga, as well as the first 4 levels of te reo māori (at Te Wananga O Aotearoa.)
